There are jinxes and then there are Army jinxes!
The Foursomes Championship had originally been scheduled for Thursday 2nd May however Mother Nature had other plans and a deluge of rain forced the Army to close their course with no play started!! This was the first time that I heard the term “unprecedented “ in terms of rainfall!
Another date was hastily organised for Wednesday 25th September and Mother Nature behaved, she threatened, but behaved. However the issues relating to a dramatic day were all “wo” man made!
Road closures and millions of them (excuse the hyperbole). No players, no refs, no panic. The Army office, Pro Shop and local players were bombarded with phone calls “we are lost” was the cry filling the clubhouse!
As Karen Gunther put it as she took 2 hours to get from Basingstoke “At least I can say I had the longest drive”
Then IG played up which meant cards had to be recorded the old fashioned way and that’s bound to end in mistakes which it did!
Apologies to all but the following are the main prize winners with full scores on the website
In the Nett Competition the trophy actually went to Diane Oram of Basingstoke and Kerry Smith from Waterlooville OCB with a nett 72 (on back 9 nett)
2nd place voucher went to Fiona Horrocks and Debbie Steadman with a nett 74
And 1st place voucher went to Mandy Overton and Sarah Farthing from Alresford with a 72 OCB
