STONEHAM CUP FINALS DAY

Barton-on-Sea Golf Club

18th September 2023

On arrival at Barton for Stoneham Cup Finals Day, the rain was battering down and the wind was showing us who was boss!!

However, amidst a deluge, and some very windswept spectators, the semi-finalists managed to tee off more or less on time!!  Lee-on-the-Solent were pitched against Romsey and Hockley were playing Royal Winchester.  Tilly Pletts started off the day from Romsey against Morgan Porter from Lee, followed by Judy Ames from Royal Winchester who was playing against Jo Russell from Hockley.

After a very difficult morning and some closely fought matches, Hockley and Romsey made it through to the Final.

By this time, the rain had stopped and miraculously the sun came out.

It was a late tee-off due to the morning’s weather problems. Romsey again started the afternoon’s proceedings by tee-ing off first.

At the turn, Romsey were up in 5 of the 7 matches, albeit the matches were very close and could have gone either way, so all to play for.

However, Romsey held on and, as daylight was fading, the Final was completed with Romsey the winners of the Stoneham Cup 2023.
