It was a mere 4 degrees as we arrived at Brokenhurst for the conclusion of our 2024 knockout season. However, it was a fine day as the morning semi-finals started.
First up was the match between Romsey and Stoneham.
Romsey won the toss and elected to tee off first. Tilly Pletts led the way with a stunning tee shot. Louise Caplen from Stoneham followed suit.
Stoneham soon took charge of this match and had an astounding 7 and 6 win.
The 2nd semi-final matches, North Hants and Alresford, were slotted in alternatively and Jenny Myers from Alresford had the honour of driving first, followed by Georgina Carter. Alresford were 1 up at the turn in this match but North Hants pulled back, winning 4 and 3.
After some incredible golf and battles along the way, North Hants and Romsey made their way to the final.
The Plate Finals then followed, between Basingstoke and Barton.
Angelena Brewer from Barton took the first match from Sarah Deacon, in a tremendous 7 and 6 win. Di Oram then took the 2nd match from Amanda Green 1 up and it was all to play for in the last match which Julie Benford from Barton came through in a very close match that took them to the 18th giving Barton the North Hants Plate.
After a quick lunch in the clubhouse, the finals then took place.
Gemma Burgess tee’d off for North Hants, pitted against Katie Biddlecombe from Romsey. 2nd up was Aimee Paterson from N Hants against Tilly Pletts and, in the 3rd match Georgina Carter from N Hants played Julie Cole from Romsey.
North Hants quickly took control of each match and were 3 up, 2 up and 5 up after 9 holes. Romsey battled hard but just could not break through against an almost faultless North Hants team and Gemma and Georgina both won their matches 7 and 5 and 7 and 6 and Aimee and Tilly were called in. North Hants had retained the North Hants Plate .
It was an absolutely fabulous day with some outstanding golf played by all teams. It is a fantastic achievement to get through to this day and we wish all the teams congratulations and to Barton and North Hants for coming through. Even the horses on the course didn’t spoil the day for us!!!
I would also like to thank Brokenhurst Manor for allowing us to use their superb course and to the catering and bar staff, the office staff and Mary Hayter, Lady Captain for their invaluable help on the day.
