Knight Cup Finals Day, 30th September 2025

                                Winners 2025 - Brokenhurst GC                         Runners Up 2025 - Alresford GC

We arrived at Southwick Park on a crisp but beautiful morning for the Knight Cup Finals Day.

The semi-finals matches started at 9.00 and Brokenhurst, having won the toss, were first to tee off. Sue Randall had a lovely drive, followed by an equally fine shot from Jacqui Humphris from Basingstoke.  The 2nd match was between Barton on Sea, Nicky Kay was first off and Linda Wager from Alresford was the last to go.

These matches were very close and after 9 holes Brokenhurst were 3 up in the first match and Alresford were 3 up in the following match. However, as time went on, the matches became closer as Basingstoke and Barton both started to pull back. Alresford were first to come in with a result, winning 2 up, but the first match was still going on and it was a nail-biting finish when it was all down to the last putt on the 18th which Brokenhurst just “tickled” into the hole to take the win.

The sun was still shining, a beautiful Autumn Day!! The course was in fantastic condition and the colour of the trees so vivid with the Autumn changes in colour.

The afternoon Final between Brokenhurst and Alresford got underway right on time. Again, Sue Randall from Brokenhurst took the first tee and Linda Wager tee’d off second. The match was very close all the way and, at the turn, Brokenhurst was 2 up. They then managed to get another hole in their bag but Alresford then started the comeback and managed to pull back to 1 up going onto the 18th. The last hole is not the easiest at Southwick and they both had 3 shots to just off the green and finally after a very exciting final Brokenhurst held onto their advantage and won 1 up on the 18th to seal their win and the Knight Cup Trophy.

Congratulations to all the teams for reaching Finals Day, no mean feat as 40 teams started.

Thank you to Southwick Park for allowing us the use of their course for Finals Day and to all the greenkeeping staff and bar and  restaurant staff for their efficiency on the day, and also to Neal and Lee for their help on and prior to the day.
